Fall is my favourite time to read. There’s something special about crisp air, warm drinks, and piling new books on my nightstand. This year, we’re in for a treat with magical fantasy, fun romantasy, and swoon-worthy fiction. I’ve picked out 10 of the most anticipated books for fall 2025, and honestly, I’m already wondering how I’ll fit them all into my TBR.
Here are the 2025 fall books to read that have me the most excited:
1. Alchemy of Secrets by Stephanie Garber

Stephanie Garber is moving into adult fantasy, and I’m excited to see how her whimsical, romantic style works in this new setting. The book features urban legends, alchemy, and tangled secrets, just what I look for in a fall read.
2. Red City by Marie Lu

I’ve been a fan of Marie Lu since Legend, and her next book looks like it will be an even darker, more intense fantasy with rival alchemist groups. The premise alone promises a gripping story full of tension and intrigue, and I can’t wait to see how the different factions interact and clash. I’m hoping for ambition, betrayal, and maybe even some romance to add extra layers to the narrative. Marie Lu’s ability to create compelling characters and complex worlds has never disappointed me before. If this book is anything like her previous work, I have no doubt that it will be a must-read for fans of dark fantasy. Count me in.
3. The Isle in the Silver Sea by Tasha Suri

Tasha Suri always delivers lush, emotional storytelling, and this sapphic romantasy about spell-authors and love across lifetimes sounds like it’s going to break my heart in the best way. Definitely one for fans of atmospheric fall reads.
4. The Second Death of Locke by V. L. Bovalino

This romantasy has me hooked already: a knight and a mage bound by duty and secrets. It’s giving me angst, slow burn, and magic, everything I crave when the nights get longer.
5. Hollow by Karina Halle

I’m such a sucker for dark academia in the fall, and this one is a Sleepy Hollow reimagining with romance and supernatural mystery woven in. Basically tailor-made for spooky season.
6. The Ordeals by Rachel Greenlaw

Magic-school settings are my weakness, and this one has deadly trials, dangerous creatures, and romance under impossible pressure. Think Fourth Wing energy but with a darker, more gothic twist.
7. Our Vicious Oaths by N.E. Davenport

Fae courts, political intrigue, and enemies-to-allies tension? Yes, I will be clearing my calendar for this one. Fall feels like the perfect time to dive into scheming fae stories.
8. Ship of Spells by H. Leighton Dickson

Pirates + magic + a sentient ship. Honestly, say no more. This one also hints at a romance that simmers on the high seas, and I’m already obsessed.
9. Never Ever After by Sue Lynn Tan

Sue Lynn Tan is back with another fairy-tale inspired fantasy full of palace intrigue and tangled love stories. Her writing always feels like stepping into a dream, which is exactly what I want as the days grow shorter.
10. The Forever Queen by S.T. Fernandez

Ancient kingdoms, forbidden desire, and a queen torn between love and duty, this one is pure epic romantasy. It sounds sweeping and emotional, the kind of book you finish and immediately want to talk about.
Now I’m curious, out of these 2025 fall books to read, which ones are you adding to your list? Or do you have a fall release I didn’t mention that’s at the top of your TBR? Let me know in the comments!
